Title: CCTV Camera with an faulty DC power connector - Cause and explanation.
Post by: Kiriakos GR on February 07, 2021, 12:01:22 PM
New CCTV Camera's at 98% DOES NOT COME with an faulty DC power connector.

At CCTV Camera's there is a better constructed cable coming from their housing and this spit in two wires about 12V power and Video BNC type plug.

The unfortunate part in the story this is that China now using recycled copper in everything as low cost consumer products.
The diameter of the copper wire for Power delivery this is tiny, copper wire comes with portion of oxidation even as NEW.
Within two years time oxidation over copper wires this increases and at that point wire resistance increases too.

The only way to detect if Power delivery cable this suffering from oxidation this is of testing the CCTV Camera at the bench by the use of qualifying electrical test and measurement equipment as is a an professional grade high precision multimeter.

By monitoring DC current consumption and by twisting the cable at the Camera side Power plug, if you measure DC current fluctuations this would be your verification and a clear message of what to do next.
