Title: Fluke 87 problem with GSM
Post by: giorgos on January 04, 2013, 05:47:27 PM
I am intesresting to buy a Fluke 87 multimeter but i have a great hesitation caused by the problem with GSM.
My question is that if Fluke found a solution to fix this failure and if applied it in production line of this model.
Where i have to focus my attention? to seller ? to production date?

Fluke has solve the problem in their new Fluke 87-V/E2K/EUR series which is the latest one.
For the first release of 87V there is no quick fix.

You should communicate directly with the authorized seller about finding this detail.
I believe that the 98% (of the second hand ones ) on eBay are the first series, which you should avoid.

Sure it is a huge risk to purchase from e bay an instrument like FLUKE 87 especially when you know the possibility for this failure. I will contact with an authorised seller when I will decide to buy it. Thank you very much for your valuable information.

For electricians the best choice regarding Fluke products is the 28II that is the most superior solution for outdoor.
The 28II is far superior as waterproof and also comes with AA bateries which offer a significant battery life,  but it is a bit bulky.  ;)

Υes this model is very durable ideal for outdoor use , nevertheless my buisness field (Electronics repairs/ alarm systems) doesnt require standars like Fluke 28 has, so I cant afford extra money for extra features useless for me. Also my alternative choices instead Fluke 87, are Fluke 179 and Fluke 233 too, so your opinion about these models would be valuable too.

I am sorry but I do not have an opinion regarding the Fluke 179 and Fluke 233 .

If you have come close to 87V as choice, just have in mind that in the cheaper models, you are cutting corners, as for example .. accuracy.

The 28II is drop proof even at three meters. (and even more than that)  ;)
