HIOKI E.E. Corporation with several years of delay, they are now implementing FFT  ( Fast Fourier Transform Algorithm ) at handheld DMM and current clamps.

Few bits of history, the Taiwanese APPA, this first implemented ( Fast Fourier Transform Algorithm ) within one of their handheld DMM and current clamp.
Or you may say that, this is an current clamp with DMM features.

The specific product for years was offered as non-ODM solution, mostly because APPA was as it seems, in denial so to absorb costs of relative software development.
One firm from Italy, this did not resist to invest at this Taiwanese product solution (hardware), and they wrote relative software, and this is the sort version of the story, of how the first Current clamp this capable for power analysis was born.

FFT  ( Fast Fourier Transform Algorithm ) this is mainly a feature of digital Oscilloscopes.

HIOKI this now delivers analysis of harmonic content up to 29th harmonic at 50Hz, this has total bandwidth of 50x29= 1450Hz.

From the other hand HIOKI this is an known maker of High-End dedicated power analyzers, the ones with multiple input channels, mainly these to be used by industries and development of new products.
HIOKI also offers portable dedicated power analyzers, for electricians and about review of three phase systems for voltage and current ( at a lower price).
And this August of 2021, HIOKI add FFT also at handheld tools, them able to review single phase and measure harmonic content.

In summary
The most important question this is at what total cost of ownership, its solution this is delivered to consumers, regarding single phase harmonics analysis.
An second question this is of how much harmonic content we need to be able to review?
At larger Power analyzers, the review up to 50th harmonic this is the latest trend.
 
 
I am going to give some time to HIOKI, so them to finalize the retail pricing of this new product solution.
When it will be clear, the pricing of measuring instrument, plus their Bluetooth module, plus software, then I will be able to pass a judgement of how cost effective the entire package this is.
