Teardown 7 Ports USB 2.0 HUB with On/Off switch
« on: June 15, 2013, 06:01:16 PM »
I did wanted one USB Hub with 7 Ports & On/Off switch in its port.

Plugging and unplugging several USB devices so to be active for a specific times was a small adventure, plus I wanted my USB sticks to be parked in one place with out be active all the time.

The below device looked as the answer to my problem and it is, for the price of 4$ American.

By getting it it worked right away,  and I was happy until i discovered something floating in it, which pushed my curiosity to open it up.

1) For once more I discovered partially soldered and unsolder-ed parts, fired up my soldering iron and corrected the soldering of one SMT capacitor which was soldered only from the one end.

2) All the USB port shields was soldered only by the one end,  poor mechanical support leads to damaged port regarding PCB connection and main pads.

3) The Power-on LED was a very powerful blue one which I did replaced it with one regular Green.

After spending 30 minutes on the additional corrections, plus PCB cleaning and complete inspection,
now I can sign that this device is clean of defects.  ;D

Please save the chanting that for the price I got what I payed for.
No one on eBay makes the discrimination of what grade is the product.

By the way if you do not have soldering iron, use customers protection and solder on the seller allot of red paint.  :)

You just made the 1.000.000 dollar worth question.  :(

It is totally incapable to cooperate with my mini HDD box which I keep inside the old 40GB HDD of my laptop.
Interestingly enough is the fact, that even by using the auxiliary USB HUB DC port (external PSU), the HUB is unable to recognize and boot up  the HDD.

The HDD just makes clicking noises and partially gets detected but this process ends with a failed boot.

By connecting the external  HDD on my PC USB Port it works nicely as expected.
