Title: APC RS1500 Back-UPS fully repaired 14-10-2014
Post by: Kiriakos GR on October 14, 2014, 07:57:08 PM
One of my usual glorious moments  8),
this Back-UPS came with the symptom of not entering in the On-Line mode.
It was charging the battery when was OFF, and when was powered ON it was failing entering in ON-line mode and was switching to Back-up mode by just emptying the batteries.
After my magic touch (which lasted for three hours) it is now fully restored and ready to go strong for another five years at least.  ;)

Congrats. How did you spot the problem?
Was the large electrolytic cap bulging or did you make a routine check of esr on all electrolytics? I see no bulging...

Yes measurement and  ESR inspection in all electrolytic s was necessary.
And especially of the surface mount ones, I was had to unsolder and lift the one side for making a reliable measurement.

For the large one, yes there was no bulging, but even so the cap was dry.

Anything with dissipation factor above 0.250 it was replaced by a new.
