Title: Honda motorcycle 35850-MG7-751 starter solenoid - Not repairable
Post by: Kiriakos GR on April 13, 2014, 09:55:57 PM
Below is one set of pictures of a HONDA motorcycle NX-250 starter solenoid, and I am presenting them as proof that this part it is not repairable.
The specific part is the original one that my motorcycle came from the factory in 1989.
Therefore it is 25 years old and failed in 2014.

As all those pictures indicate this air-tight sealed part it is impossible to be repaired if it gets damaged.
The word damage in the specific parts represents that large chunks of copper have moved away from the contact point and their surface looks alike with the surface of mars.

There is some repair men who are trying due lack of availability to rescue one even damaged part by repairing it, unfortunately in this case there is no access to the damaged contacts because they are upside down.

This HONDA Part 35850-MG7-751 it is used in a tremendous amount of motorcycles.
When it fails the motorcycle have a major difficulty to start because the starter is not working at full speed.

Confirmation of the problem with electrical measurements it can fool you if you do not know with what you are dealing.
The true test should be made under electrical load, in my measurement of contact resistance I got fooled too.
The best foolproof test is the voltage measurement before and after the solenoid by having disconnected the spark-plug cable from the spark-plug and by using the starter for few seconds.

To all HONDA riders I will say to not trust the made in China alternatives.
The construction of this part is very delicate.
I did measured at list three o-rings on it, which warranties air-tight operation and waterproofing.
Not to mention the quality of the copper it self.

Therefore go for the original …
