Title: 2015 ITTSB Blog multimeter’s Max temperature sensing round up

Originally I started investigating all about K type thermocouple and especially their output in mV so me to deliver feedback to a vendor, and ended up at making a Max temperature sensing round up, of most of my product samples.

Who will care to measure above 1000C in to a real application? This is not important.
What it is important is that any vendor when makes choices regarding his own product and it new features, he has the option to select among several temperature sensing circuitries so him to buy and use.


When we say that a vendor (products manufacturer) he did cut corners so the product this to match a specific retail pricing, he can do that even by shopping for temperature sensing circuitry made in past decade.
 
My quick research this revealed that modern temperature sensing circuitry (year 2013) this is able to achieves precise temperature measurement in the order of ±0.5°C over a very wide temperature range with about 0.9°C accuracy at +1300°C but this is just an example of a single known Integrated circuit manufacturer. 

After me starting to explore K type thermocouple temperature VS mV DC output, I did my own table of mV / temperature values for personal use.

Now I am going to share only the Max temperature sensing ability of the multimeter’s which I did tested and any one he can make his own conclusions.

DMM BM257  = 1560C    = 62.87mV
DMM U1272A = 1474.5C = 57.60mV
DSO GDS-320 = 1370.8C = 53.48mV
DMM DE-208A = 1370C   = 54.10mV
DMM  BM869  =  1249.8C = 49.81mV
DMM  Fluke 28II = 1093.0C = 43.96mV
DMM DT4282    =  799C      = 32.41 mV   
 

I did my testing by injecting mV DC with my portable high precision source and I am now very happy, because I never thought before to explore such details.
Now I do feel much wiser!
