One inquiring mind made his on DIY solution that is an alternative of the U1173A IR-USB Cable.
Which is used for remote control and data logging to PC.

The point is that the  the U1173A IR-USB retails around 30$ and it is ready to use, with the proper housing and all.

But yes, for educational purposes it is worth reading the below link.

Thank you...That looks pretty interesting.
Sure...it isn't the perfect fitting Agilent Stuff, but for playing around and trying it out still nice.
