Title: AAA AA 9V How to get a battery out of a tight battery compartment - Solution
Post by: Kiriakos GR on November 19, 2025, 04:33:44 PM
At 100% of battery powered multimeter, and testers, Bluetooth modules etc.etc, all product designers they thought that we are going to use Alkaline batteries.

Alkaline batteries even today they come within metallic housing, and by the use of a screwdriver or by using a knife as a lever, we can extract them from a tight battery compartment.

But when we make the choice using Ni-MH instead, there we have a new problem.
We cannot extract the NiMH battery without scratching battery terminals and or the soft outer sleeve.

I have an solution to offer, but this translates to thinking ahead and be prepared.
Even at a tight battery compartment, all that we need, this is the first battery this to be extracted by some sort of external assistance.
Here comes in to rescue, the most common item at every home, the roll of transparent tape.

For AA and AAA,  there must be a free length of 1.5 centimeter, so us to use as pull-out lever.
At a battery compartment for two AAA, we need to add such a tape at one of the two batteries, at least.
Transparent tape this is extremely thin and not elastic.
We can add it at both batteries, and this will not have any negative impact.

This solution will not cause any trouble, even at battery charging.
And also if this tape deteriorates after of a year or more, this is easy to be removed, and be replaced.
I do not know of why I did not think of that solution two decades back? When I start using AAA 800mAh Eneloop. :)

For the 8.4V PP3,  the tape this it should be installed at weight balancing point.
The joining together, part of the tape end, this should be in the middle point of the battery.

So here you have it, no more scratches, no more scuff marks, no more ugly looking NiMH.  8)
