Title: Eyewear safety standard EN 166 F :2001 = Power Tools Angle Grinders for Metal
Post by: Kiriakos GR on January 03, 2026, 11:09:43 AM
Few months ago an contractor, him forgot and or abandon at one work site, an pair of Safety Eye wear.
I did discover this gift, and took it.  :)

After removing the cement dust over it (deep cleaning), this protection classes kit, this looked as new !!
There is EN 166F writing over the plastic body and also on the lens.

On the lens they are several codes 2C-1.2 DS 1F CE
My next generated question ... how we can understand of in what they translate?
And or .... How to read eye protection markings?   ;)

Decoding time:    :)
2 = Suitable for intermittent use

2C  = UV protection with good color recognition = Certified in line with EN 166 (personal eye protection) and EN 170 (UV filters)

1.2 74.4% - 100% (clear)

Impact resistance F = Withstands high-speed particles, low energy impact.

CE = Euro village

DS = Manufacturer marking,  while visible brand name appears as MACO?

Lens material  Poly-carbonate (PC)

Long story in short,  such gear this is priced at 4 EUR retail.
While the cheapest pair of protective glasses, hobbyist level,  this is priced at two Euro coins.
