Title: Nedis BANM9HF91B 8.4V 250mAh NiMH Review - Compatibility - Dimension sensitive?
Post by: Kiriakos GR on January 29, 2026, 12:31:28 PM
Few month ago I tested my luck by buying, two ANSMANN 8.4V 280mAh.
Both products demonstrate good performance at electrical tests, but both failed winning the title of best choice for dimension sensitive applications.  :(

Dimension sensitive application:
They are a number of products out there, these having a very narrow battery compartment.
Such a narrow battery compartment, this keeps compatibility with all 9V Alkaline (metallic cage).

Unfortunately for us interested using a NiMH as Alkaline replacement, we facing tough times.
8.4V NiMH with narrowed down (Slim) dimensions, they are easy to be found, at smallest available capacity. :P

This period of time, I decided to make one last experiment at my cost.
Nedis BANM9HF91B this is widely available in Greece, and I just ordered one, so to test it mostly regarding dimensions compatibility.

History facts:
Nedis BANM9HF91B this is latest distributed product of Nedis (2018~2020~2026).
Nedis at 2015, they attempted selling NiMH cells under HQ branding, for unknown reason HQ branding this were abandoned.
Even so, all these 8.4V 250mAh NiMH, branded as HQ or Nedis, they have something in common, they appear as slightly thinner, according to few traces of product specifications, at seller's listings.

Nedis this changed ownership few months ago, and no one knows for how long they will continue distributing NiMH Cells.
Currently Nedis offer 6 months of limited warranty.

At the price of 10.90 € with VAT, I did not hesitate to pull the trigger, so to perform this review regarding it compatibility, at dimension sensitive applications.

If in the language of math,  00.30mm less this is considered as thin? then this battery it is thinner than ANSMANN  Typ 280.

Regarding manufacturing source, this by 99% it comes from, the Chinese ODM this selling also to ANSMANN.
For along time I was wondering, of why NEDIS this keeps the pricing that high?  (retail 9 EUR or higher)

Now I know... battery design, this is identical to ANSMANN 300 MaxE and to Typ 280.
This is constructed by AAAA type of battery cells.

This is 2 gram less than Typ 280mAh.
BANM9HF91B Actual Weight 39.11 grams.

Confirmed dimensions:
height: 48.5 mm
width: 15.46 mm  (Ansmann 15.68mm)
length: 26.30 mm

This battery came with no production date or any date, at first test this measured  8.88V under load, at ANSMANN Energy Check tester.
Battery body, heat-shrink label, this does not have any electrical  information's, and it is also missing the recommended charging current.  :P
Battery clips and top view, breathing holes, all identical to ANSMANN battery case construction.

I am now giving it, it first full charge, and later on I will run electrical capacity tests, so to confirm product health or electrical status.
Attached below few unboxing photographs.

I am also in communication, with the local shop, so them to deliver detailed explanations about production date and warranty period.
And I activated also NEDIS Support team, so to get their word too.

Final Verdict ..

1) NEDIS this is somewhat of a gadgets supermarket, their support team does not have any training, so them to support properly their NiMH products due the offering of technical information.

2) Nedis BANM9HF91B,  this product it does come from the supplier of ANSMANN 8.4V Block.
Back in time (fourteen years ago, this was the ANSMANN Typ 250, with almost 230mAh of usable capacity.
Attached is Ansmann datasheet as reference.
Ansmann datasheets, since the beginning of time, they are poor made, even so its better than nothing.

This style of battery assembly, an container of seven AAAA cells, this has survived at my hands for a longer time than anything else.
I have here today, an ANSMANN Typ300 MaxE, this now shown permanent damage after of 12 years of ownership.
Apples to apples comparison, I do not know, if BANM9HF91B this has A-grade of cells inside.

But I do see the glass as half-full, in a market loaded with no-name trash, this product design alone it did caused to me a positive impression.
I will retest this specific battery after a year of time.
So far I did run five tests at 50mA discharge, and another two at C1 discharge, and I have a significant amount of logged data.

For now I can say with confidence, NEDIS NiMH batteries stock this arrives yearly in EU every April.
For example, this specific product of 2025 this came to me as 10 months old ( At Feb 2026).
I got an undamaged product, with actual useful capacity in the range of  223.8 ~ 226 mAh.
