This is my personal experience from the year 2010.
I was after getting my first oscilloscope, and one retired electronics repair man, he had one very old analog scope for sale/trade.
I had to trade one INTEL PC motherboard ( High end expensive) from my past upgrade.
The trade did not go well, because my motherboard was even more modern than customer requirements.
EVEN SO, I had this scope for testing for one day. :)
THE TRUTH ...
This scope had several added stickers (sticky notes) around the knobs.
Basically most old TV set repair man, they were making two or three measurements.
And they added marks over the scope for switching fast, between the three settings / measurement presets.
Its a pain in the ASS trying to adjust an analog scope at specific frequency of a signal, and then to seek at getting maximum detail of this signal on the screen.
In a healthy TV set, all signals have perfect shape, and AC or DC voltages that a scope it can easily measure.
In a damaged TV set of 90s, the analog scope its like trying to see things in the fog.
In conclusion.
Most TV repair man at 80s, they had small budget, they were using extremely old analog scopes.
In time they came out analog scopes, with faster electronics, these are high bandwidth 200MHz / 500MHz, these were tremendously expensive.
At 2026 and due luck of servicing components, and due the very difficult to use oscilloscope controls, the first time oscilloscope owner he should IGNORE this era of scopes.
