EN61010-031 DMM Test Leads Certification, this is not just a pack of requirements relative to test leads manufacturing.
Long story in short.... branded test leads, no matter if wires insulation this is PVC or silicone, both mention Environmental ratings
And or Operating Temperature.
And the confusion by reading product packaging, this enlarges when you read identical numbers.
Example from FLUKE leads: -20°C to 55°C (-4°F to 131°F) = Official Assembly Rating
Physical Flexibility in Cold & Raw Insulation Melting Point, for PVC or silicone wires, those information's are missing.
According to EN61010-031, DMM test leads this is a single product, and product specifications for temperature limits, these include probe and banana insulation, and wire.
And according to safety specifications, the operating temperature this is the temperature that it can survive the weaker link in this chain of three items.
In another example, I did see UNI-T test leads, with operating temperature of Max 40°C ?
In summary
EN61010-031 this forces manufacturing sources, these to deliver confusing product specifications, for us that we seek to judge wires build quality.
In recent years, some products does not even list wires AWG .. (product packaging)
And when wires does not include printing over sleeves, the consumer he should trust engraved text over the probe, or over the 4m plug.
What if you come across of unbranded test leads with engraved text? Will you trust it? :P
Food for thought ...

Their thermometers might be out of calibration ;D
