This is a fresh topic aiming to enlighten the ones expecting best measuring precision at Ohms range.
My only FLUKE branded HH DMM, this is now the
CNX 3000 (Part of wireless industrial DMM Kit).
By using it Ohms range as a test, and by connecting it at my 8846A mA inputs, I did note precise delivery of
typical short circuit current per Ohms range.
There was a time, that FLUKE corporation this were delivering actual data of typical short circuit current per Ohms range.
Examples: 600 Ohm, 6K, 60K, 600K, 6M, 60M.
By looking several fresher FLUKE datasheets, I did discover of how much precision FLUKE offers per class of handheld DMM.
Low Class = 114, 115, 117 at 600 Ohm =
0.9 % + 2 Medium Class = CNX 3000, FC 3000, Fluke 174 at 600 Ohm =
0.5 % + 2 High Class = 87V Max / 28II at 600 Ohm =
0.2 % + 2 (When using the rel function to compensate for offsets.)
While the 8846A that is a bench-top factory

, at 10 Ohms, 100 Ohms, 1K Ohm range this deliver
0.01 % + 0.001Why this topic is here anyway? Well its one reminder, this delivering a few major hints.
a) If you are trying to measure a precision resistor by one economy HH DMM, you will never measure accurately.
If your resistor this is
at 1% tolerance, and your
DMM has 1% not tight (range) tolerance, your measurement can be
off by 2%

b) An better handheld DMM this will reduce measurement error up to a point.
c) There is no handheld DMM this able to perform
Low Ohms and accurate measurement.
In conclusion, if the list of your applications includes troubleshooting of electronics, these made by high precision components, then the choice of the DMM model, this is also critical for you.
Especially when you are up to, making a choice between
FLUKE HH DMM models.
Note: About me, I am going to explore a little more, the Ohms range
Source Current specifications.
As it appears that FLUKE this using Source Current IC, these delivering a documented output of
mA and
uA at all times.
Even if newer datasheets, they do not include detailed information's.
At least I will chart-down my CNX 3000 Ohms ranges.
8845A/8846A Users Manual / page 1-14, this is very informative regarding
Source Current.
FLUKE 289 Users Manual, also includes relative details.
