I am currently reading Solder wire datasheet from a European source.
And there is in writing, Expiry date at 5 years for Sn60Pb40.
In theory, it is coding over the spool, this indicates ... after decoding .. the manufacturing year.
Metallurgy and alloys this is not my strong point.
And I will avoid acting as I know all fake professor.
Yes they are now European restrictions, about using Sn60Pb40, its not forbidden but it is restricted for professional use only.
Regarding Expiry Dates at soldering spools, I will simply activate your own brains cells, so you alone to start your inquiry.
My own first thought, if an industry buying soldering spools from electronics production, and expects product quality and properties of solder wire these be unchanged, and or stable.
Then the expiry date makes sense.
The new question is if China gives a shit about that?
China hates be in compliance about anything, especially when compliance this is imposed by foreign legislation system.
About me, I do not buy, never did, unbranded soldering consumables.
And never had a single incident, of a failed repair, due soldering consumables failure.
