Within 2024, here comes one new recommendation about using a neodymium magnet as scam detector.

This is a recommendation, for eBay and Aliexpress buyers of no-name test leads.
Some scammers in Mainland China, they did find the way to form regular iron in to a multi-strand wire.
And they also paint the iron, so this to look similar to copper.

Product in question, is the assembled pair of alligator clips in to multiple colors.  :P

My recommendation, buy only alligator clips, and re-use wires from dead computer PSU.
Especially the very old PSU they was had pure copper wires in their 20 pin harness.
