Delock 82308 USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable

This Delock 82308 active USB extension cable was first introduced to the market in 2009.
Because the USB 2.0 interface standard, this is universally set and highly stable, Delock has continuously kept this exact product number in their active catalog for over 15 years.
While the physical cable and its internal Terminus FE 1.1 chipset have remained unchanged, its documentation has been updated over the years to reflect support for newer operating systems, evolving from Windows Vista and Windows 7, up to W10 & W11.

I was after a long USB cable so to be able to relocate my USB dongle Bluetooth radio, so to place it in a ideal spot, this having a better 360 degrees coverage in my office.
And I did gave a battle with my self until to decide.
My Plan A, this was using a regular USB cable as USB 2.0 extension.
But AI this shown as able to convince me,  about me shopping instead this Delock 82308.

The major issue with no-name brands, this is that 90% of USB cables they are made in China, with equal to trash quality of copper.
The second issue, this is AWG in use for power lines.
 
Delock 82308 Cable gauge:
28 AWG data line
22 AWG power line     

I have never owned anything from Delock (German Importer), but AI was again able to convince me, that Delock this aiming industrial audience and applications.
They are not distribute poor made toys.  :)   

Delock 82308, this uses Terminus FE 1.1 chip.
In a way this is an active USB HUB, and the boosting has to do with the Data Lines.
For many years I was thought that USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable, this translates to low cost  DC/DC full of noise booster, this keeping the voltage stable at 5.0V.
But now at July 2026, I did become much better informed. ;)
Chip consumption:  30~64 mA

FE 1.1 chip, this is fully supported as USB HUB, due a basic driver available in all versions of Windows.
USB VEN_1A40  / revision block 0100

In my surprise, Delock 82308 can be found in Greece, at lowest price available 11.90 € from entire Europe.
Due the fact that I do not plan stop using my USB to Bluetooth dongle with Broadcom BCM20702, for wireless data logging sessions.
I have no other option, than buying today this cable.  :)

Wow, new opportunity ahead for a bit technical research, actual performance limits  ;) 

DELOCK 82446 this is brother model 10m cable, of Delock 82308 a 5m cable.

I searched for customer feedback for my choice of 5m length.
Most people using these cables so to extend range of USB dongle radios.
Zigbee, Bluetooth, all working beautifully, and even the power hungry WiFi dongles.

But at the 10m version, the power hungry WiFi dongles, they do not all making it to work.
WiFi dongles they use much more electrical power, and a 10m cable of 500mA of max delivery, this getting in the RED zone.
Its all about electrical power limits, at 10m cable its more easy the 5V line to dive bellow 4.5V or lower.
An less power hungry WiFi chip, this will work stable.
But the judgement of power hungry chip or not, this is relative to Chip product design date. ;)

FLUKE this sold Zigbee and Bluetooth radios for wireless data logging.
Keysight this sold Bluetooth radios for wireless data logging.

Zigbee & Bluetooth power requirements
Idle 10 mA to 20 mA
Peak TX Power Draw  30 mA – 80 mA (Very low spikes)
Voltage Drop Impact   Keeps Vcc safely around 4.8V–4.9V       

FE 1.1 chip this has an consumption of it own, Chip consumption:  30~64 mA.
In round numbers, we are talking here about 190 mA as Peak.

While actual available DC current for the connected device, this is a max of 440mA  (from the named as 500mA specification).   
For hobbyist and others,  10m cable this should be paired with a WiFi  dongle with known specification of 350mA as average.

Today I feel as somewhat blessed or Super Lucky.   8)

In practical terms, the hart of the system this is Terminus FE chip inside.
Terminus FE1.1 chip = High performance, this able to be in daisy chain  / MTT (Multi-Transaction Translator).

Terminus FE1.1S chip = Low performance, this is unable to work in daisy chain / Single Transaction Translator (STT) Bottleneck.

And I did discover the entire truth after 100% of manual personal investigation.

Long story in sort:
Terminus FE1.1 chip
This supports to be connected with several FE1.1 in series, and it forms a daisy chain of active USB HUB.
While this chip support four downstream ports of USB 2.0 output (USB HUB), at such cable extenders, by design three ports stay unused.

While in appearance, we see only a single USB active cable, this is actually a SMART USB HUB in to compact package.  8)

AI this complained to me, that computer parts Reviewers, they never searched that deep as I did.
This is of why it does not have sources to share about detailed information's.  :P

Yes I had a fear, that this might be old listing, be in stock this might be a challenge.
But my order was accepted, stock found, and this is now expected to arrive at major e-shop warehouse.

I did some spying of my own, and I did discover another rebranded product this has markings over the cable.

Electronics and PCB, this might came from another door.

I got stumped upon some buyers reviews in Germany, for the 10m cable.

Buyer confirmed 350mA this is no problem for the 10m.  :)

Buyer confirmed,  2A this is no possible for the 10m cable.   :P  (powering six web cameras)

Buyer complained, two of five cables they were killed by moisture.
The extensions can be combined without any problems; I was able to run it 30m from my room to the roof.

:P  This is of why I will never relocate to Germany, too much moisture in the roof. ;D

Buyer confirmed, excellent performance when connecting laptop with USB sound mixer (loss less packets travel).  :)

Buyer confirmed, I bought the USB extension cable for my MIDI USB keyboard to ensure a stable connection to my laptop during performances.
No latency, high quality. Absolutely recommended!

I do feel disappointed by this trickery of Delock.
I never got anything from them, zero experiences with their products, other that they appear overpriced.

About 82308 USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable 5m.
I did run two tests to discover power supply limits.

I have two laptop HDD enclosed at two USB 2.0 enclosures.
Power up test, spin out current :
Seagate ST9160310AS 5V 451 mA = PASS   Spin-up / Inrush (Peak)1.200 A (1200 mA)
Typical Drive Ready Time 3.4 Seconds

WDC WD1600BEVT    5V 550 mA = FAIL   Spin-up / Inrush (Peak)0.950 A (950 mA)
Typical Drive Ready Time 4.0 Seconds 

File transfer bandwidth 25~30MB/s

Quick test to discover if you are dealing with Chipset : FE1.1s
This chip supports battery charging specification 1.1/1.2
If you connect a mobile phone at the end of the cable this will begin charging.

In conclusion.
Delock succeed to kill my enthusiasm, a number of four people in a office in Germany, three woman and a man as product support.
FE1.1 inside?  No way
Delock actual cable,  it is now missing the logo of Kaibao Electronic Co., Ltd (China), even the cable this is now classified as unbranded.  :P

I still have mixed feelings if I will return it back or not?
It works with my Bluetooth dongle, I did run three hours as a test.

Due the entire so and so impression, I do not recommend it.   
Cheapest FE1.1S (5M) cable this can be found at seven Euros.
