Never used before Dupont 2.54mm Pitch Connectors, and now I am after taking the most of their potentials at 5V DC.

But the point is, that in order to find out the answer of Max diameter of wire supported?
Even AI this will fail to understand of your question.  ;D

Thew quick answer that I am supplying due my fresh experience, this is that plastic housing of a female connector this will accept 22AWG as Max.
In metric Overall Diameter (OD) this is 1.60mm (1.62mm).

22AWG = 0.64516 mm diameter of copper, and it can deliver up to 920mA

While MOLEX advertising single Dupont pin, this able to deliver 3A Max, this information it is not useful for the makers.
The female connector hole for the wire this is narrow, and it will not accept 18AWG.

In my electrical application, I am somewhat lucky, I am just maxing out Dupont connector potentials, so to minimized voltage drop, at one USB to TTL converter.
This converter it will deliver constant power at 5V  300mA, and I am after keeping the received voltage at the micro controller, as higher and stable as possible.

In the industrial world, this is described as Acceptable Loss
If you are after a strict 1% Acceptable Loss (in voltage), then your wire OD this must be as generous possible.
When 3% Acceptable Loss this is acceptable?  Then you may use a smaller diameter of wire.

Unfortunately there not any accurate DC Cable Sizing Tool calculator, as On-line assistance.
You are forced to experiment and measure by a high quality digital multimeter, the results of voltage loss, per wire length and under full load.

For the makers that might need DC current above the 1A mark, they will need a different style of connector than a Dupont with pin size of 0.60mm x 0.60mm
